Traditional Settlements of Gökçeada (Imvros)

Today, only six from the seven traditional villages of Imvros continue to have inhabitants of Greek origin and of these only Agridia (Tepeköy) village is populated exclusively by Greeks. There are also five new settlements built by the state after the 1960s. The traditional architecture of the Greek villages contains elements of both the Macedonian and Asia Minor traditions and they are relatively well-preserved. Except Kastro (Kaleköy) village which is inhabited continuously since the 5th Century B.C., the villages of Schinoudi (Dereköy) and Aghioi Theodoroi (Zeytinli) are from the beginning of the 16th Century, Agridia (Tepeköy) village is from the middle of the 17th Century and Panaghia (Merkez) and Evlambio (Yenimahalle) villages from the beginning of the 18th Century.
